Event Description : Sada Arts Society presents 'Qaid-E-Hayat' Urdu Play.
We first performed it on 11th of February in Sahitya Kala Parishad’s Yuva Natya Samaroh.
Qaid-e-hayat captures the troubled world of ghalib; his bitter domestic life, his financial hardships and above all his tragic love for Katiba.....
The play has been divided in three acts where the first act takes place in the house of ghalib. It proceeds with an ongoing conversation between umrao, ghalib's wife and apa, her sympathetic sister. However the exchange of deepened thoughts and feelings are frequently intruded by kallu in lieu of ghalib's creditors which aptly presents ghalibs problems with his creditors who frequently tormented him, his domestic problems and attitude of his contemporary poets as 'Yasin'. Parvez, an aspiring poet produces an image of irony as a result of a common man's failure to realize his dreams.
The second act beginsbwith Katiba's portrayal as deeply in love, her soft melodious voice and delicate movements. The dialogue between kaltiba and Shireen halts at the arrival of mirza as shireen leaves the space for an episode of interaction between katiba and ghalib which exudes intense yearnings for intimacy.
The beginning of the last act is marked with a span of one year. Ghalib returns from kolkata after his appeal regarding his pensions was rejected. Now he is under house arrest as a result of non payment of credit to one of his creditors.
Pounced by the news of katiba's demise his soul cries out to him.
