Event Description : Bards & Minstrels Series : Acoustic Traditional National Storytelling Tour 2013.
14th April : Sacred stories of shamans and mukdums from Eastern Himalayas documented by Acoustic Traditional. Oral Storytelling traditions and folklore of Eastern Himalayan tribes (Rai, Limboo. Kwoico creation and Lepcha oral verses).Talk on the relevance of tribal oral traditions by Acoustic Traditional followed by an interactive session and discussion.
15th April : Sacred ritual and explanation on Jamphemung or Yeti (The Big Foot) followed by a documented story from Dzongu (North Sikkim) by Acoustic Traditional. Sacred rituals will be accompanied by Lepcha flute artist. Concluding with a Doc. film- The Ritual Journey (Lepcha with English subtitles/75mins) Dir.Dawa Tshering Lepcha. He followed Meyrak, an 80 years old Lepcha shaman or Padim and recorded his daily life and rituals between 2003 and 2010. He is seen performing healing rituals for individuals as well as rituals for the well-being of the household, the clan and his village community. This film offers rare insight into a way of life which is fading away, even as it allows a peek into what defines the Lepcha way of life in general.
