Event Description : Adi Godrej (President CII) and Pradyumna Vyas (Director - National Institute of Design) look forward to your presence at the inauguration of the 12th CII – NID Design Summit by Hon’ble Shri Anand Sharma (Minister of Commerce, Industry & Textiles, Government of India)
Endorsed by the India Design Council, the highlights will include the importance of Design, its value and importance to businesses and the utility of Design Thinking to tackle the most challenging problems. Having established the significance of Design and Design Thinking for business vitality, it is now imperative to put this to use in practice. The big gap between “thinking” and “doing” is evident and immense. It is this gap that this edition of the Design Summit intends to fill, where it is proposed to answer the significant question about “How to make it happen?”.
This Summit will deliberate on how to move from Design Thinking to Design Doing and explore key methods, strategies and successful techniques to extrapolate Design Thinking to Design Doing within businesses. It will endeavor to explore how businesses can achieve new growth using Design.
The lively platform will engage in discourses by leading Design Practitioners and enthralling discussions, amongst an audience spanning the industry and academia represented by CEOs, Directors, Design Heads, Design Managers, Designers, Faculty and Students.
Hon’ble Minister Anand Sharma is expected to inaugurate and eminent overseas Speakers from UK, USA, Finland, Sri Lanka and Netherlands, including Paul Priestman (UK), Zachary Paradis (US) and Tania Snellman (Finland involved in sustainability programme Tikau Share in India) are expected to participate. Amongst the Indian participants, confirmed eminent include R Mukundan, MD Tata Chemicals, also Design Heads of General Motors, Unilever and Cognizant.
The Summit will have a CEO Session on December 13th from 10.30am to 11.30am, where discussion will focus on What does Design mean for them today? What actions, ideas and competencies are required to deliver Design Excellence? The session envisages to learn from the CEO’s Design Leadership—as Design is used to solve big problems and Design Execution—the ultimate payoff of Design Excellence.
Another highlight at the Summit is the presentation of the CII Design Excellence Awards 2012 during the inaugural session on December 13th, 2012 from 12noon to 1pm. The awards are a celebration of the very best of Indian Design over the past two years. It seeks to demonstrate the value of Design to the Indian industry. It will be a true acknowledgement of Design Excellence, Innovation and originality of Indian Design. The awards will be given in the four main categories of Visual Communication, Industrial Design, Interaction Design and Mobility Design and their 18 sub-categories.
Approximately 90 product / panel displays will showcase products including those of the CII Design Excellence Awardees, the qualifying I Mark entries and completed Design Clinic Scheme projects.
