Event Details : The Films and theatre society celebrates 150th anniversary of noted writer of Hindi/Urdu literature Saadat Hasan Manto with its first workshop batch production 'Kaali Shalwar'.

While India celebrates 150th anniversary of noted writer of Hindi/Urdu literature Saadat
Hasan Manto, The Films and Theatre Society also pays tribute to him in its own modest
but honest manner.

In their first ever student-production by acting students, the society presents one of
the acclaimed stories of Manto i.e. 'Kaali Shalwar'. This play takes the audience to the
dark corners of trivial but persuasive human desires. The play revolves around Sultana,
a prostitute in Mumbai who along with her partner Khudabaksh is finding it difficult to
survive despite being in the oldest profession in history. Amidst all this arrives festival
of Moharram and Sultana longs for a “kaali shalwar” to complete her attire for the
occasion.
Sultana has to have a confrontation with the ethics of her profession to be able to fulfil
this desire.
Garnished with powerful performances, tightly knit scenes, some riveting
narration and hummable live singing, this play is all set to keep the reputation of FTS
repertory productions intact in this student production also.
