Gurukul Chhau dance Sangam is performing group composed by six permanent dancers, national and foreign professionals in the field of dance, with different artistic backgrounds. We perform to delight audiences with a fresh and refined Chhau program displaying the elements of this attractive dance form through its traditional context, molding them with innovative and creative compositions.
The program will consist of solos like Mahadev and Nataraj, duets like Geeta, trios like Dandi and other group dances like Kalachakra and Martial Art.
Mayurbhanj Chhau is a semi classical dance of Odisha that emerged from the training arenas of Oriya soldiers, as well as tribal and religious dance forms. Currently it is an art with unleashed potential, struggling to gain a place in the dance field that will allow it to grow and evolve to showcase its real splendor. The grace and quality of lightness that envelops the dance is highlighted through balancing sculptural poses, powerful kicks, and challenging jumps.
