Event Details : 'Rock Art-2012' Solo Art Show by Dr. Vandy Jais.

My artwork is the product of my years spent at art school, practical experimentation and quite observation. Over time I have evolved to include many different styles and modes of working. Most recently my work has been abstract recreations of rocks and life within and beyond the surface of earth as apparent to us. I have blended the abstractness of nature with the strokes of my brush and technique to create a new dimension to life as we
witness it. I have worked with many mediums, but I am currently finding expression painting with acrylic on paper.
My paintings reveal a departure from reality in depiction of art. This departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial or complete. Abstract exists along a continuum of life as is depicted in my paintings. The growth of life from the pits, with strife to reach higher is a continuum that defines the circle of life. This circle is often seen as a vicious inescapable cycle, but my paintings look at this circle as a network of growth where every dark patch is inextricably linked to a ray of light that leads to the way
ahead. As years have passed, my appreciation of beauty has become more nuanced
and the images and emotions on my canvas reflect this growth. Their impact fills me with an overwhelming desire to celebrate and embrace life. This appreciation, for me, brings optimism to a world which is grappling with disillusionment. As some romantic rightly said ‘Nature is the healer-it soothes, replenishes, regenerates.’
