Event Details : SPACE presents Evening Observation at India Gate.
We invite you for an evening observation that SPACE is organizing as part of World Space Week celebrations. Through this event, SPACE targets to encourage general public and students to look
through the telescopes, share their experiences with each other and appreciate the beauty of the night sky. We plan to place several telescopes in the lawn area at India Gate to celebrate World Space Week.
About World Space Week : “World Space Week (WSW)” is the largest annual public space event on Earth announced by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 1999. The objective is to “celebrate internationally the beginning f human space age and its contribution for the betterment of the human life condition”. The dates commemorate two historic space events:
• Oct 4, 1957 Marks the Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1.
•Oct 10, 1967 Marks the signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
The theme for WSW for 2012 is “Space for Human Safety and Security”. Each year SPACE compiles and sends a report to U.N about the celebration and activities conducted during WSW in India.
During this month we celebrate Astronomy events and encourage others to join us by doing a public outreach. Your valuable presence will support the organizations’ goal in motivating and inspiring the students towards space science and in developing their full academic potentials.
