Event Details : 'Burma VJ: Reporting From a Closed Country' Documentary film screening.
The film sheds light on the brutal 40-year military regime that operated in a closed country, far from the eyes of the mainstream global media. Risking torture, life in jail and even death, the young members of the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) kept up the flow of news from their closed, military-controlled country. Burma VJ focuses on "Joshua", one of the young video journalists of the DVB who worked undercover to counter government propaganda. Global Burma Day is celebrated each year on August 8th and this film screening is in solidarity! Winner of Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Full Frame Documentary Festival; International Human Rights Film Award, 2009 Berlin Film Festival & World Cinema Documentary Film Editing Award, 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
