It is the first film to be shot entirely outdoors, on location, at 16,000 ft. in the Kulu mountain. This historic archival film has a music score by Pt. Ravi Shankar, assisted by the eminent musician, Vijay Raghav Rao and featured lead singer, the well known classical Vocalist Laxmi Shankar. Winner of the President of India's
Award for Best Film in English, 1964, it won top awards at the Locarno, Frankfurt and Mannheim International Film Festivals. An apocryphal tale of unrequited love in the high Himalayas, The Avalanche is a story told by a ‘sadhu’ who is both a participant in the drama and a witness to its unfolding.
