22 June 2012 : Canada Sings!  A special double feature of documentary films on two of Canada's top professional choirs.
Carry Me Home (2003)
Directors: Liam Romalis and Gerald Packer;  English, 48 minutes.
The story and   music of Toronto’s Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Canadian composer R. Nathaniel Dett's was known for his use of folk songs and spirituals for choral and piano compositions in the romantic style. Through interviews with musicians, the film provides insight on Dett's path breaking compositions and his influence on Afro Canadian music.
Men of the Deeps (2003)
Director: John Walker; English, 52 minutes.
Men of the Deeps captures the grace and dignity of a group of men whose livelihood has been lost but who use their voices to inspire and uplift.  They are all members of the Men of the Deeps chorus, whose performances of traditional and contemporary songs evoke their former working lives as miners. The film shows Cape Breton as a land of astounding physical beauty.  Winner of three Gemini awards and the audience award at Toronto’s Hot Docs festival.

Canada Diverse : Canada is a nation of immigrants, with one in five Canadians born outside of the country.  These films are stories of this rich ethnic diversity – whether it is a search for roots (Incendies) or coming to grips with the past (Monsieur Lazar) or searching ways to preserve a heritage (Carry Me Home, Men of the Deeps). There's also snapshots of Jewish Montreal, as seen through the eyes of the late great novelist Mordecai Richler (Barney's Version) or glimpses of the "mainstream" cultures of Vancouver (Love and Other Dilemmas) and Montreal (Sticky Fingers).
