With Vengo, Tony Gatlif has made a flamenco film. Hopefully he avoids all the traps of a “tourism cinema”. The popular Andalusian music is here never ornamental. It is one of the main characters and the only star of the impressive expository scene, before the start of fiction. It is also the antique chorus of a southern tragedy, as simple and archetypal as an opera libretto.
So this is the story of an impossible mourning, of honor and vengeance. Caco the Andalusian, is lamenting over his dead daughter Pepa during the musical festivities, accompanied by his young nephew Diego, a young exuberant handicapped person. During these hot nights, mixing dancers, widows always praying and half-Mafioso, it appears that the Caco family is in a blood debt to the rival clan, the Caravaca, and that someone must pay…

Theme for the Month is 'Ciné - Club June : Musique !' : On the occasion of World Music day, June 21st, the world celebrates music through its many different dimensions and forms and within the framework of these festivities, the selection of our Ciné - Club for the month of June will explore the very old and strong existing links between cinema and music. Inextricably linked to the history of cinema, music is a protean companion of cinematographic art. Indeed it has not only worked in an illustrative function and as an additional narrative support, highlighting the emotions, being sometimes in front of them or echoing them, but has also been able to modify the reception of spectators,
because of its presence. For all these reasons, don’t hesitate to come and see many versions of an amazing couple: Image & Sound!
