"Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" film screening at Alliance Francaise De Delhi, 72, Lodhi Estate > 5:30pm & 7:30pm on 15th June 2012
Time : 5:30 pm
& 7:30 pm
Entry : Free (Seating on First-Come First-Served basis)
Event Details : 'Les Demoiselles de Rochefort' film screening.
Solange teaches music theory and Delphine, her twin sister, gives dance lessons. They are waiting for true love, just like Maxence, painter and sailor, and Andrew Miller, an American composer, and Simon Dame, music goods dealer, and Yvonne, their mother, who runs a café on the main square of Rochefort.
From the very first picture, Jacques Demy shows the path to paradise: to berth on the Treasure Island named Rochefort, get onto the transfer bridge, and let yourself slip into the sea air. Your life will be transformed. Look at the effects of this travel on the procession of bikers on the road, during the generic. Standing on this cable-car of the seas, each one is stretching, to extricate themselves from a lethargic sleep. And then, little by little, yawns disappear behind smiles, cracks of legs become leaps, humming motors stop to let us listen to the sound of a cheerful piano.
From a basic framework (the search of soul mate), Jacques Demy has created a unique world, halfway between his memories of provincial dreamer and the fantasy of fairy tales.
But watch out! After seeing this film, you may dance on sidewalks, singing in face of passers-by, and talking into poetry with the greatest naturalness…
Director : Jacques Demy
Year : 1967
Duration : 120 min
Theme for the Month is 'Ciné - Club June : Musique !' : On the occasion of World Music day, June 21st, the world celebrates music through its many different dimensions and forms and within the framework of these festivities, the selection of our Ciné - Club for the month of June will explore the very old and strong existing links between cinema and music. Inextricably linked to the history of cinema, music is a protean companion of cinematographic art. Indeed it has not only worked in an illustrative function and as an additional narrative support, highlighting the emotions, being sometimes in front of them or echoing them, but has also been able to modify the reception of spectators, because of its presence. For all these reasons, don’t hesitate to come and see many versions of an amazing couple: Image & Sound!
