13th April : Nordic Vistas- The Mountain
Dir.Ole Giaever (Norwegian/2011/73mins)
Nora and Solveig are hiking through snow-covered, rough, but beautiful scenery on a tour of several days that will take the two young women to the top of a mountain. Solveig, three months pregnant, seems incapable of doing anything the way Nora wants her to. The further the women advance on their trip, the
closer they come to the place where a tragic accident happened two years earlier; one that changed their lives completely. Solveig hopes that the trip will set in motion a process of soul-searching that will help them to cope with their grief and give their relationship a chance. But although their plan sounds sensible, in reality, it proves to be a painful process during which all their pent-up bitterness, hurt feelings and fears gradually surface. The closer the women get to the site of the accident, the more they seem to be drifting towards the end of their relationship.
14th April : Nordic Vistas- A Somewhat Gentle Man
Dir. Hans Petter Moland (2010/103mins)
Ulrik has been in prison for 12 years. Too long for him, but not long enough for others. Most people he meets back in his old ’hood didn’t expect him to be out so soon, including his ex-wife and his old boss. The latter wants to help his old employee out. He gets him a job at an auto garage and buys him a gun so he can kill the man who ratted him out to the cops. Ulrik just wants a quiet new life, but his old life still demands that prior expectations apply. He learns that he’s not allowed to see his grandchild because he’s a murderer, his girlfriend suddenly won’t have anything to do with him, and his gangster friend urges him to take his
revenge on Kenny. Ulrik discovers that Kenny had nothing to do with his arrest. So why on earth should he kill Kenny? Wouldn’t the world be a better place without his gangster friend?
