Event Details : ‘1 Billion Plus’ showcasing the artwork of Gurgaon based artist Vallery Puri.
Gurgaon based art gallery Quill and Canvas, will host an exhibition entitled “1 Billion Plus” showcasing the artwork of artist Vallery Puri. Vallery’s ‘1 Billion Plus’ draws inspiration from her interpretation of India’s population and attempts to tap into the lighter side of what seems to be India’s burden and growing concern. This  oil on canvas repertoire, will feature 3 story lines titled Dreams, God and Goddesses and Urbanesque. 
Vallery’s work is uncomplicated, literal and clearly reflects the artist’s thoughts and emotions at the time of creating the artwork. Her uninhibited and generous use of colours, positively captures the cacophony and the chaos of a country with a large population with subtle and yet humorous implications of what that implies. Vallery says, “One Billion Plus should have been a prequel to my previous exhibition “Where have all the forests gone”, as it is the need for MORE of everything that led to the depletion of our forests. Both themes speak of depletion and multiplication, both causing severe stress to our planet. The number of people, to the number of hair on their heads to the number of thoughts that race through our minds to the number of imaginary stories that give magical momentum to our creativity; my current repertoire is a manifestation of all this and more.”
DREAMS
Our dreams don’t take up space or pollute our breathing air or cause any harm. In fact they inspire us to move mountains and create a more wonderful world. So dream on and some day fulfillment shall be yours is her message.
GODS AND GODDESSES
Our Gods and Goddesses, who inspire us, who leave us in awe and who also in many ways control our lives form the theme of this storyline. Apparently there are around 300 million that exist and are revered by our 1 Billion Plus. Her work depicts the human side of exalted deities and portrays them as ordinary people with a human touch.
URBANESQUE
Homes, high-rises, huts, traffic, stray animals, people, pollution, temples, mosques, mandirs, ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­wires…we have an overdose of everything.  In the midst of plenty of “grey” colour is thrown in as a symbol of “Hope” for a tomorrow that will be brighter.
“I paint what I feel-meditatively.  I go intuitively with the flow. That to me is my inspiration. My moods and my whole being has always reacted to colour from the time I can remember. I feel and live colours, whether it is wearing them or splashing them on canvas.”
The first thing that strikes you when you meet Vallery Puri is her colourful personality, sheer vibrancy and zest for life. Not surprisingly she says, “A love for art, be it painting, music or dance runs in the family and is in her genes.” She spent about ten years jetting around the world as an air hostess during which time she didn’t touch a paint brush. When she started painting again, she began with pen and ink and one acrylic shade, gold or copper and progressed on to acrylics and oils on canvas. 
Her paintings have the vivacity that is visible in her personality. They are more of an autobiographical sojourn, characterized by an almost infectious vibrancy. The two things that attract you to Vallery are her genuineness, and her honest and unpretentious style.
After 29th April, the exhibition of Vallery’s work will move to Quill and Canvas at South Point Mall, Golf Course Road, Gugaon.
