Event Details : Kri Foundation presents 'Danzlenz' A showcase of eight Dance films featuring the works of Maida Withers, Internationally celebrated dance artiste and film maker, Professor of Dance at George Washingston University, USA, who will personally introduce the films.
Also present will be music composer, Steve Hilmy and graphic artist and editor, Anthony Gongora

Maida Withers - choreographer, dancer and filmmaker, is the founder and artistic director of Maida Withers Dance Construction Company of Washington, DC (1974) and a Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at The George Washington University.  DANCE:FILMS has been produced by Where Where Is Productions.   Maida’s stage and film works reveal an ongoing interest in social and political issues and in juxtaposing dance and technology.

Films to be screened are : 
MAIDA I (2:45 min)
Maida Withers, dance artist is caught between the worlds of fire and water, in this combination of dance theatre and graphic art. Original music by Lauren Ruth Burke.
MAIDA II (2:54 min)
Disarming portrait of Maida Withers. Using animation and effect, signalling the daily extremes in this artist’s life. Music by noted New York composer, Guy Yarden, add intrigue and humor to this Dance Film Short.
ORBIT (3:31 min)
In Orbit, the hand-held camera is effectively used to give close up shots in this dance duet using circular patterns of leaving, weaving, and returning to establish the concluding setting of quiet reassurance. This film premiered at the prestigious IMZ Dance Screen in Frankfurt, Germany and has been selected for showing at the D.C. International Film Festival; and for the Women in Film Festival, Kennedy Center, Washington, DC.
COLLISION COURSE – A.K.A. PILLOW TALK (7:42 min)
A somewhat humorous spectacle featuring three characters with body parts wrapped in large white bed pillows, suggesting an armor of protection, an obstacle to overcome. This site film, shot at the House of Sweden, Embassy of Sweden, is at once bold and delicate, humorous and loving, diving and daring. Original music by Steve Hilmy has a classical edge.
THRESHOLDS CROSSED (3:51 min)
A dance duet shot on location on Solovki Island, Russia in an historic wooden building built in 1929. Maida Withers and Anthony Gongora, dancers along with Audrey Chen, vocalist/cellist, create a dramatic relationship with close up shots of strong physical dance movements.
TZVETA I (7:42 min)
This colorful Dance Portrait on Screen of Tzveta Kassabova employs intense imagery to reveal the flow of a beautiful life. The film, a collaboration with Anthony Gongora, editor, cascades within shifting emotions and ephemeral views of a woman moving through her time on this Earth. Steve Hilmy balances electronic synthetic sound design for a provocative musical amalgam.
TZVETA II (4:59 min)
Tzveta Kassabova, a brilliant and unpredictable dancer from Bulgaria, is the subject of this Dance Portrait on Screen, a dramatic and colorful revelation of this mesmerizing character. Steve Hilmy balances the electronic components of his music with harmonic design to create a subtle and engaging musical score.
TUK (Tukuhnikivatz) (18:04 min)
TUK is a stunning fusion of dance and the environment filmed in the spectacular wilderness lands of the Four Corners Area of the U. S. Southwest. TUK is an extraordinary journey of eight souls across the majestic landscapes primarily in Utah - five dancers, two filmmakers, and one photographer reveal their uplifting and challenging experience in this inspiring film by Maida Withers. The landscape photography is by world-class photographer Bruce Hucko. The breathtaking original music is by renowned Native American composer for film, Brent Michael Davids performed by his Blue Butterfly Group. TUK has been selected for showing in several film festivals in the U.S.A. in Utah, South Carolina, and Washington, DC, among others.
