Event Details : 'Reminiscentiae' An exhibition of paintings by Shivani Bhalla, BV Swetha and Aparneet.
Artist's Comment : My works are essentially autobiographical. Childhood memories and objects related to my everyday experiences find their space in my works.
A strong desire to interpret what I experience, as the “innocence of my past”, through painting led to my working with the child like mental space with mediums. I try to capture the essence of a situation or incident, through abstract narrative scenarios that have a dream like quality, not unlike a fairy tale. Recently, I have been experimenting with an intuitive and playful approach of image making – by way of artist books which contain imagery from visuals around me. While flipping the pages of my artist book - I feel the narratives have a kind of ambiguity that allows viewer means to create their own story, simultaneously creating a feeling of déjà vu. I admire the works of artist like - Quientin Blake, Kara Walker, Paula Rego amongst others.
