Art Alive Gallery and Palette Art Gallery in collaboration with the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise present Sujata Bajaj’s solo show.
Abstraction as perceived by Sujata comprises of originality and expressivity. Throughout her artistic career she has paved her way towards forming something which is entirely new and eclectic in approach. A similar kind of eclecticism will be unveiled on Tuesday, 8th October, 2011, in the form of her current body of works titled ‘Sujata Bajaj | 2011’, along with a book launch titled ‘Sujata Bajaj- La Difference’ by Michel Waldberg, at Alliance Francais, New Delhi.
Sujata Bajaj and her works - “Sujata is an artist who provides a crucial link between its past and future by inheriting, extending, and renewing its traditions in colour. Her work embraces the finest elements of tribal symbolism in the genre of painting, finding new meanings in that aesthetic while also incorporating art’s ability to express color, light, and shadow. The result has been an entirely new style of abstract expression through which she captures the subtle changes of space, nature, light and shade to create abstract worlds of vivid and spectacular majesty.”
“Sometimes as in the vertical studies of limpid leanings, Sujata spreads yellow-brown and resonant red and velvet black pigments across the canvas bringing their sweeping strokes together in a coloristic space that weaves and folds back in upon itself…”
“…Look more closely; the suggestions of colourplanes,and the nuances of the earthy textures seem to be developed like nuanced notations, sending out a syncopation of the magical monumentality of the waves of sacred scripts.Partly eroded by weather and vagaries of nature they mirror within the web of life,of different tales told in broken stories through legends, of an ancient culture that has resurrected itself through multiple cycles of sadness soaked in an absorbent serenity. Within the rubric of this treatment in colour, the study of the earthy terrain is like a scroll that testifies: it endures, it withstands.”
