Event Details : 'Tagore or Madhusudan?' a talk by William Radice.
In this year of the 150th anniversary not only of Rabindranath Tagore's birth but also of the publication of Michael Madhusudan Dutt's Meghnadbadh kabya, William Radice reflects on his long involvement with these two great poets: on their differences of style and personality, and on the contrasting challenges they present to the translator.  He will illustrate his talk with extracts from his recent translations of Meghnadbadh kabya and Gitanjali.
William Radice is well known for his translations of Tagore.  He is also a poet.  From 1988 to 2011 he taught Bengali language and literature at SOAS, University of London.
