Event Details : 'City Eyes' an exhibition of photographs by Sameer Tawde. Winner of India Habitat Centre Fellowship for Photography in 2008.

Sameer’s show is a collection of 22 photographs which are part of an ongoing exploration of Bombay / Mumbai. Started in June 2008, the project evolved into a fellowship for photography at the India Habitat Centre, in November 2008. It constitutes images created over a period of 2 years till around mid 2010.
Sameer’s work involves extensive research and persistent revisiting of his subject. Though he has been working around some preconceived notions of the city his photographs display an effortless humour and effective use of color. The odd juxtapositions of imagery, often compelling and a little mysterious, demonstrate an insightful eye. The concurrence of impersonal, people-less photos on the one hand and some which show people and their absence – is a silent, almost meditative, appraisal of the city.

- Abeer Gupta, Anthropologist and documentary film-maker.
In this series City Eyes, Sameer Tawde gives an everyday gaze at ever metamorphosing Mumbai. Taking various perspectives about the city, Tawde takes us a journey of unexpected places throughout the city juxtaposed in sets of opposing concepts, such as the central and the peripheral, the private and the public, the visible and the invisible, and the real and the imaginary.
As a result, his photographs suggests new ways for us to look at the city as well as giving us chances to relfect its past and future.
