Event Details : Natya Vriksha presents Arangetram performance by Pranita Shreen Choudhry, disciple of Geeta Chandran.
Arangetram is an important occasion in the career of any Bharatanatyam dancer. After several years -- decades even -- of arduous training, when the Guru is confident that the disciple can sustain a solo performance, the arangetram is announced. The arangetram thus is an honour to the Guru; a momentous rite of passage, it marks the first milestone in the disciple’s journey into the ocean of Bharatanatyam.
Pranita Shreen Choudhry has been a disciple of Geeta Chandran at Natya Vriksha for the past 14 years.
A student of Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan (Nursery to Class VIII) and then Delhi Public School R.K. Puram (until Class XII), Pranita went on to graduate with a degree in Honours Economics and Financial Management from the premier Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada.
Through her school and college, Pranita’s commitment to the arts has been noteworthy. In music, dance and choreography, she has innumerable events and awards to her credit, among which are her contribution as a choreographer of the university dance team in all the four years of her college.
Throughout her university years in Canada, Pranita was enrolled in dance workshops, learning different styles such as hip hop, jazz and ballet at introductory levels, and presenting performances at the end of every workshop session.
What has been amazing is that through her higher studies in Canada, Pranita would return twice a year during her 2 and 3 month breaks, and be fully immersed in her Bharatanatyam. And this past year, she bravely decided on a gap year to polish her dance preparing for her arangetram.
Pranita is also trained in Photography under two professional photographers: Amit Verma (professional photographer with Forbes Magazine, India) and Rakesh Sahai (senior free lance photographer).
Through the past year, she has had the opportunity of being a part of their teams, working on projects and traveling for outdoor photography assignments. These projects involved a wide range of subjects such as wildlife, historical monuments, sacred structures as well as capturing the cultural diversity of our country.
Pranita’s spiritual guide is Pujya Vishwa Mitter ji Maharaj, at Shree Ram Sharanam. His teachings have highlighted to her the significance of leading a responsible, disciplined and dignified life and kept her spiritually rooted. She continues to seek his love and blessings as she crosses different milestones in life.
Pranita is deeply influenced by her dance Guru Geeta-ji, who has been a valued mentor and loving guide since her childhood.
She hopes to be able to integrate dance, spirituality and her love for the arts with a career in economics and development studies.
