Event Details : ‘Car’nama…a collection of classic car paintings alongwith Pakhi-za…a collection of bird sketches by Ravi Kapur.
He is 69, retired from the army and fulfilling his dreams with a twinkle in his eyes to this day! With a passion and sense for cars since his childhood, Ravi Kapur made a car in his school days and would probably have been an automobile engineer if he had that option or opportunity. Many of the car designs he sketched in the 1950s are on the road today! A winner of the Himalayan Car Rally, and someone who can spot a car model in a moment, he has even redone old classic cars and coordinated some vintage car events. A swimmer and cyclist in his younger days, Ravi now spends hours watching F1 racing, Moto GP and Tour De France shows on television.
Sketching and painting comes naturally to him, and perhaps this is what led him to become a civil engineer in the army. An alumni of Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi he was always a multi-talented student, playing the mouth organ, piano, violin; doing ballet and theatre; and a lot of outdoor stuff. After joining the National Defence Academy (Pune), he became a Batalion Company Commander and passed out from the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun) as a young cadet. After his course at the College of Military Engineering (Pune), he joined the Bombay Sappers and served the forces for 20 years with great penchant for his work. In the civilian world thereafter, he spent some years in the Middle East, constructing among others the Al Zuabi Mosque in Muscat.
With no formal training as a painter, Ravi Kapur is an artist who works on canvas, paper, fabric and (stained) glass, with pencil, paints, crayons and charcoal. His easel and paint board are among his best friends when he sits down for hours to sketch and paint. Playing the harmonica alongside and despite his recent health problems, Ravi Kapur is a man with a great sense of humour and will power to follow his dreams. The other day he told his daughter that he will participate in the Tour de France next year…
Ravi Kapur is married and lives in Faridabad. He has a wife and two lovely daughters.
This is his first public exhibition and will include some exciting merchandise as well.
