Event Details : 'Kashmir... As I See' a photo exhibition by Shome Basu.
SHOME Basu has been photographing from the age of sixteen. He has been the picture-editor for several news magazines and newspapers. His extensive work portfolio ranges from politics, features and business. He has travelled to many places and docu- mented the lives of the unknown people suffering from poverty and conflict. Arsenic poisoning at the India- Bangladesh borders was one of his first internationally recognised work. He was among the first Indian photojour- nalists to reach Afghanistan post the Taliban era. He believes that journal- ists are windows for many who have little scope to speak and express. His camera has been a tool to do just that. His recent works on Kashmir has got him wide international acclaim and the reportage was used by Amnesty International as a result of which many young men were released who were detained under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA). He has worked fro many publications like India Today, Business Today,Outlook group, Marie Claire, Cosmopoliton, Outlook Traveller, Open, Wall Street Journal, Amnesty International, UNICEF & many more. His profile was recently reported on Asian Photography magazine. He lives in New Delhi with his wife.
