Swechha presents "Yamunotsav" on the eve of World Environment Day at Amphitheatre, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road > 7pm on 4th June 2011
Time : 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Entry : Free
Event Details : Swechha is a movement – a consensus among people about the nature of society, its problems, and possible ways to work towards positive change. It was launched in the year 2000 as the 'We for Yamuna' campaign. We started with recognition of the pitiable state of the river Yamuna, the 'lifeline' of Delhi that catered to almost all the water needs of the city, but remained forgotten, ignored and unattended by the very people it nurtured. Since then, we have evolved into a fully-fledged youth organization engaged in the issues of environment and social development, using awareness, communication, training and advocacy as primary tools. We have three cross-cutting focus areas which run throughout our work: environment and education, youth and civil society and active citizenship.
Swechha's annual event Yamunotsav is coming up on the eve of World Environment Day. Yamunotsav is an event where we unite to rekindle our spirits and energies for the Environment, bringing together artists, students, environmentalists and citizens of Delhi. The event aims at spreading environmental consciousness using art, music and unconventional innovative ideas.
The event highlights:
- Raghu Dixit in Concert – Raghu Dixit’s potent mix of rock, blues, funk, sufi and folk has fetched him international fame. Although Raghu has been signed by renowned world music label Wrasse along with a worldwide publishing deal with SONY/ATV, he remains an ardent supporter of Swechha and Yamunotsav.
- Menwhopause in Concert - Menwhopause is a five-member band from New Delhi. The band has toured the USA twice with an appearance at SxSW 2007, Austin, Texas and a full-fledged tour of Texas.
The band won the 2008 Jack Daniels' Best Band of the Year award and got an opportunity to work with REM’s producer Dave Barbe. Their Second Album ‘Easy’ with EMI-Virgin Records is a huge hit.
- Exhibition of Green Products by Green The Gap (GTG): GTG was set up by Swechha as a way of raising awareness on environmental issues and providing secure employment with reasonable wages for disadvantaged people. Through reusing waste in innovative ways to create high quality, useful products, GtG empowers consumers to make choices about their shopping habits.
- Screening of TATVA: Tatva is a short animated film on the environment and how you can ‘volunteer for the planet’, produced for International Volunteer Day, supported by UNDP and VSO India. Full of climate, water and energy facts and tips on how to live in a more environmentally-friendly way, the film hopes to incite action among young and old alike.
