Event Details : Nitanjali Art Gallery presents 'Looking Back to Look Forward' A Group Exhibition of 100 works of art by 40 artists to mark the 10th anniversary of the gallery.

The kaleidoscope of art works travels back and forth as the artists reflect on the concept of time and space in a contemporary context. The works especially created by a fairly varied group of 40 artists from across the country and beyond, representing different genres, regions and schools of art, thought and generation; presents an interesting interconnect, an overview of the current Indian art practice and aesthetics.
Reflective of the changes over the last decade, the collection in wide-ranging oeuvres, media, sizes and forms features the overt and covert, the evocative and the provocative, the sublime and the ridiculous, the secular and the profane and the routine and the innovative! It searches within and beyond to try and put the spotlight on the changing face and colors of contemporary Indian art in the globalised world of today. The exhibition captures the elusive picture of multi-layered socio-political economic contexts and groupings in an assimilation of the old with the new- to review the past, represent the present and foretell what is to come- looking back to look forward…
A 180 page hard bound illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition featuring the new works made by the artists as well as examples of their earlier work to rewind and retrace their artistic track and appreciate what changes, if any, have occurred and how far, if at all, it tells the story of the shift in the artist’s own stance or of our times to represent the age, our thinking and concerns. There are images sprouting from the realms of pop culture, installation and mass media besides traditional painting and sculpture or mixed media work that seem to look ahead and yearn for a different future.
The participating artists are:
Amiya Bhattacharya, Anshika Varma, Atul Bhalla, Baba Anand, B. Srinivas Reddy, Ebenezer Sunder Singh, Ganesh Gohain, George Martin, Heeral Trivedi, Jatin Kampani, Josh P.S., Kaaru, Kamar Alam, Ketna Patel, Mukesh Sharma, Paresh Maity, Puja Bahri, Pooja Iranna, Prajakta Palav, Rajesh Sharma, Rani Rekha, Ravi Kumar Kashi, Rima Kundu, S.
