About Broken Melodies: Broken Melodies is a bitter-sweet story of a girl, Niyati, growing up in Delhi and is set in the 1970s and 80’s. Niyati is a normal child growing up in an abnormal family. Her father Paaji, a talented but unbending classical musician, is gradually drifting apart from his wife Sumiran, who works as a bureaucrat to afford a public school education for her daughters. Paaji believes that as an artiste, he is perched on a higher intellectual scale and he blames Sumiran for his failure to realise his potential. Sumiran prefers to risk Paaji’s ire and estrangement but refuses to prostrate herself on the altar of his hauteur. Broken Melodies is a cauldron that keeps bubbling throughout as it tracks Niyati’s coming of age, and finding both romance and love in a family being torn asunder under its own contradictions.
