Event Details : Frontiers of History - The Marginal Jotter : Scribe Chaube and the Making of the Great Linguistic Survey of India, c. 1890-1920.
The talk explores the making of the massive Linguistic Survey of India, c. 1880-1920, which produced a dozen volumes of text about the languages and dialects, together with nearly 250 gramophone records where natives from different provinces recorded their tale, song or a fable. The talk will showcase a few of these gramophone records cut in Allahabad and Delhi in 1920.
