- Osian’s-Cinefan, 9th Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema ( Previously it was called Osian's Cinefan Asian Film Festival ) : From this year, Arab cinema becomes an integral part of Osian’s-Cinefan. The festival will have three competition sections – Asian & Arab Cinema, First Films from Asia, Indian Cinema – with international juries and cash prizes. FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) will give their own awards. The regular sections are Cross-Cultural Encounters, Frescoes of Asian and Arab films, Indian Mosaic and In-Tolerance.
- The Festival, with the tagline Recreating Cinematic Culture, will focus on Japan with a tribute to the Japanese master, Kenji Mizoguchi. Also screened will be samurai films and contemporary Japanese cinema. The Silhouettes section will consist of films with women as central characters, in an oblique reference to Mizoguchi’s predilection for highlighting the situation of women in Japanese society in his time. Commemorating the 150th anniversary of India’s First War of Independence in 1857 will be a section of films that describe the struggle for freedom in Asia and the Arab world. The role of film festivals in laying the foundation for the success of a film will be showcased in a section of films which, because of the awards or recognition they received went on to become landmarks in the history of world cinema. And the festival will pay tribute to the technique of cinema in a new section this year called Film Craft where the place of the cinematographer will be acknowledged.
- Around 140 films from more than 35 countries will be screened here & guests include filmmakers, festival directors, producers, actors, scholars & journalists. And more than 60000 movie lovers are expected here.
