Event Description : MUSIC : Concert of Czech Pianist Jana Chaudhuri

The secrets of music attracted Czech Pianist Jana Chaudhuri already as a child. Her father was a singer for over 30 years in the South Bohemian Opera. From childhood she understood that even though music is without a physical form and is experienced only at the moment one hears it, it has the power to go to the deepest regions of our being and evoke the widest, deepest and most complex emotions within us. It can convince people of various cultures and nations, without words, and cross distant barriers and boundaries.

It was music that created not only the first connections, but deep understanding as well, with her husband, the Indian conductor Debashish Chaudhuri. Thereafter, Jana began to take a deep interest in Indian culture, philosophy and yoga. Within it she discovered a deep sense of understanding and enlightenment which continuously helps her to go deeper into the compositions which she plays as well as to the truth about music itself.

Nowadays Jana Chaudhuri ranks among the most outstanding Czech pianists. She has performed in numerous concerts all over the Europe, China and North America. She is a professor of Piano studies at the International Conservatory of Prague.

Jana Chaudhuri was the first Czech female pianist to have had public concerts in India and since 2014 she performs here every year. Jana Chaudhuri presented special concerts on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of the great Indian poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore as well as Swami Vivekananda. She also began a unique project with Bharatanatyam dancer Rasabihari in which two dramatically different worlds of art meet and communicate – Indian Classical dance and European Classical music.

The program showcases works from some of the most famous European composers living in the 19th century in important centres of music of that time - Prague, Vienna, Warsaw, Paris & Moscow. You will also hear some of the finest pieces from the Czech piano repertoire, showing the richness of styles, tradition as well as the overwhelming influence of folklore.

The Piano Concert will be introduced by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Milan Hovorka and presented by Jana's husband Maestro Debashish Chaudhuri who will speak about interesting connections between the pieces and the composers and thus make it a unique overall experience for the audience.
