The Future We Want…
A Safer World for Women

Through this exhibition v-11 is trying to communicate what we strongly believe people already know. In simple words, we are saying
STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!
GIVE THEM THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE!

Say NO! to Violence

This display of paintings and sculptures organized by the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan provides an intimate view of five artists trying to highlight their common concern about women’s safety and security.

V-11 artists comment:
GIRIRAJ SINGH: Nowadays there seems to be no secure place for women. They can’t move nor mingle with other people freely; in certain parts of India, women are still hiding behind veils and have many restrictions and boundaries.

JYOTI SINGH: Woman - A providence of this beautiful world! Her amalgamation with Nature holds attraction with her own strength and serenity. The brush strokes are soft and her strength comes from her aura within, giving a feeling of spiritualism beyond mere worldly desires. Fish, stars and deer are all personified into an ornamental form in the painting as if her desires have been carved on to her body.

SOMESH SINGH: Through my sculptures I have tried to give voice to the agonised body of the Woman. Her pain pierces the heart but can it shake us of our apathy?

SAJAL PATRA: “MA” shows a fragile female figure juxtaposed against the great 8-armed Goddess Durga.  We worship the goddess whom we have not even seen, but we have become incapable of seeing a woman - from birth to death - as a human being worthy of respect and honour.

SEEMA PANDEY:  I am angry. Angry, that even today we are talking about gender equality. I am angry with the struggle I have to face whenever I want to be myself. I am angry that I have to fight for my space in this society. Through these works I am just saying that this place is mine and I am going to do whatever it takes to reclaim my space.
