Event Description: HCL Concerts presents Anirudh Varma Collective x Tāl Fry featuring over 50+ musicians across India

Anirudh Varma Collective

The Anirudh Varma Collective (AVC) is a contemporary Indian classical ensemble from New Delhi, India. It is led by pianist, composer & producer, Anirudh Varma. The Collective comprises over 150 musicians and artists from across India, America, and Canada. Their attempt is to bring the rich tradition of Indian Classical music out of a niche viewership to a larger global audience, through convergence with diverse genres but keeping it rooted in its pure form.

It is empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of Culture. The Collective has presented over 600 concerts in the last 6 years across India, Maldives, Kuwait. The Collective toured the USA in 2023 presenting 15 concerts across 9 cities.

The ensemble received the award for the Best Indie Band of the year by the Clef Music Awards in 2023, for the track Naino Waaleya, featuring Darshan Doshi and Kamran Zafar (Coke Studio). AVC’s debut album ‘Perspectives’ and second album ‘Homecoming’ was featured as the top indie albums of 2018 and 2022 by the Rolling Stone Magazine.

We are Tāl Fry, a classical rhythm ensemble based out of Delhi, India and we would love to be given an opportunity to present to you our music and the novel ideas we have in store for our listeners!

TĀL FRY is an initiative that brings together enthusiasts of rhythm with great tastebuds. Classical music in itself is very intriguing, and combined with the versatile tonalities of our instruments and the use of visually engaging light design, the ensemble to create a sonic and visual spectacle for its audience.

With an eclectic soundscape comprising of the Tabla, Mridangam, Ghatam, Cajon, Dholak, Sitar Flute and Carnatic Vocals, this unique concept seeks to delve into the rich rhythmic traditions found in both Carnatic and Hindustani Classical as well as folk music, exploring these elements in innovative and experimental ways.
