Event Description:
Zuban-e-Dilli: Walk & Baithak on Shahjahanabadi People, Dialects and Trades!

Shahjahanabad, the capital of India’s architect emperor… the city made by the builders of Taj Mahal. In the history and aesthetics we often overlook the people who make this city, colloquially called ‘Old Delhi’. There are age old crafts that these narrow lanes have lovingly nurtured artisans and traders who have made these mohalla their own and artfully have weaved the cultural fabric of Purani Dilli, as we know it today!!
These dying crafts and craftsmen, the Purani Dilli ke log (people of Old Delhi) and their slowly fading "dialects" make the soul of Old Delhi as we know it.

DelhiByFoot in collaboration with Kathika invites you for an evening immersed in the culture of Old Delhi as we present Fouzia Dastango, a true-blue Purani Dilli waali, who gives you a glimpse of the social dialects of Shahjahanabad in her own inimitable style!!
We will begin with a walk around some of less-visited "kuchas & gallis" of artisans and craftsmen engrossed in a vanishing craft, hearing tales of the "chowk and chauraheys" soaked in the fragrance of niharis as 'bhatiyare' get ready to dish out their wares in larger-than-life cauldrons...
Thereafter we settle ourselves in the century-old haveli-museum Kathika, for the finale of the evening as you will be regaled by a delightful performance by Fouzia who will make the long-lost culture of Old Delhi come alive through her renditions & conversations around Purani Dill’s Social Dialects…
