Event Description:
Kathasutra; an anthology podcast on stage

Kathasutra, is an innovative concept of story narration and involves artists from theatre and voice industry, weaved together in a style of Katha Vachan or story narration.

In this edition our theme is ‘Kuch naya kuch purana’ (something new something old) where merge stories by an early writer and a contemporary writer in a loop.
Our story line up comprises of Manto’s ‘QASSIM’ and Divya Prakash Dubey’s ‘IBNEBATUTI’, adapted in a playwright format. We have created a theatrical loop and blended a static play and the whole concept, in a form of experimental theatre. Our theme is raw and realistic. Something that touches the human soul.  The whole stage scenario is created through audio-visual effects. This experiment is one of its own kind, and we call it KATHASUTRA.

Featured stories:
IBNEBATUTI by Divya Prakash Dubey: The story revolves around Shalu, a widow, and her son Raghav. Raghav, noticing his mother's loneliness, suggests that she considers reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend, Alok. Initially hesitant, Shalu and Raghav embark on a search that leads to nostalgic conversations through letters and a renewed connection. The story highlights the transformative power of second chances in life.

QASSIM by Manto: In a British colonial era setting, a young boy, Qassim  finds himself working as a servant in the house of a stern and demanding inspector. The story revolves around the harsh conditions and exploitation that Qassim faces as he tries to fulfill his duties. Unfortunately, the relentless nature of his work takes a toll on his physical well-being leading to turning point in the story. The narrative may explore themes of resilience, injustice, and the need for societal change to address the plight of marginalised individuals, during that historical period.
