Event Description: Double Trouble
Shonai is a modern jazz pianist, composer, and educator based in Delhi and the founding member of The Shonai Collective. Following a brief period of studying Western classical music, he turned to jazz. Shonai is a graded artist of All India Radio, and his jazz piano recitals are often broadcast. While traditional jazz being his main influence, his music also incorporates elements of other genres, including impressionistic music, R&B, soul, funk, and blues. In addition to performing in and around India, he has given numerous performances in renowned venues and festivals throughout Europe and Asia. Shonai performs as a member of two jazz ensembles and also works as a music educator.
Jigmee is a prolific guitar-player based in Delhi who started his music career early in Darjeeling and later moved to Kathmandu,Nepal and was a part of the critically acclaimed Afro-Funk Jazz group Cadenza( year 2000). Jigmee was one of the founding member/Guitar faculty at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory(KJC),Soloist with the KJC- BigBand conducted by Dr Gene Aitken(Grammy Award winner and considered one of the leading Jazz Educators in the World) and started his own group JCS-Trio (2003),a regular feature at the Kathmandu Jazz Festival and Nepal Music Fest' since its inception in 2001. In 2017 Jigmee shifted his base to Delhi and started teaching at One World College of Music(OWCM) and Eastwind Music Academy. He has traveled across India with Karuna Kshetra-Orchestra headed by some prolific International musicians/performers composers viz Rainer Pusch (Saxophone) and Manickam Yogeswaran(vocals/mridangam).Jigmee is equally well versed as a Bass player performing with various Jazz groups in Delhi/Kathmandu.
