Culmination with an informal performance

Summer 2008, Gurgaon Epicentre at apparel house. Old world hospitality announced various workshops for kids as a part of their summer program. It had guitar playing, art and craft, dancing and many more but what was missing, theatre workshop for children. This was the beginning of Imran Khan and his organisation Theatre I Entertainment Trust  in Theatre in Gurugram. 

    Imran Khan is a highly experienced, Internationally renowned theatre Actor, Director and facilitator  who has dedicated his entire career for working with and for children. He started his own Journey in theatre as a child at Delhi’s National Bal Bhawan under the guidance of Veteran Theatre activist Dr Ashish Ghosh, has been practicing his theatre with and for children since 1997 professionally. Imran has trained thousands of children in India and abroad. Apart from working with Children Imran has also been a popular facilitator for professional actors and educators. In career spanning over 25 years Imran has facilitated and directed world class productions with Children and with professional Actors for Children. Imran himself being a professional actor and storyteller, he has narrated 100s of stories to children and family audience.

Imran’s Journey has been extremely special in relation to Gurgaon and beginning of Children’s Theatre. While his workshops for children continued at Epicentre through out the year he initiated more centres to reach out to as many children possible across Gurgaon. What makes his workshop different from many other theatre workshops started after him, that the team Imran work with are trained professional people who work with children through out the year and not those who turn towards children’s theatre during summer break for easy source of money. 

   One of the main focus of Theatre I Entertainment’s workshop is not to give lines to children and make them speak, but most important part is to encourage and guide them to develop their own stories, dialogues so that the whole experience about exploring self potential rather learning only few dialogues of “a” character. Theatre is not about speaking dialogues or playing a character. In fact its about experiencing reality in dramatic way. Expressing and reflecting your thoughts about the real world. Fantasy, fictions, realistic or documentary these are just the various forms to mix with technique of theatre but actually we reflect what we see. So guiding those reflections as per the age of child and not imposing the ideas and morals of adults.
