To celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Aaftab-e-Sarangi Ustad Sabri Khan Sahib, Saurang Sangeet Society is organising an evening of Classical Music with recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri (Sarangi), Pt. Anand Thakore (Vocal) and Pt. Shubhedra Rao (Sitar).
About Ustad Sabri Khan Saheb
Ustad Sabri Khan sahib, the second name of Sarangi who gave a new life to this unique musical instrument, One of the most renowned Legendary Musicians of India. He represented the 6th generation of unbroken lineage of Sarangi exponents of the most respected school of Sarangi Playing The Moradabad Gharana  He worked as a Top Graded Artist at All India Radio New Delhi for almost 50 years. Khan sahib has been responsible of Introducing Sarangi to the audiences of the world.  He was among the Musicians performed for the India’s Independence at The Indian Parliament House on 15th Of Aug 1947. 
 
About The Artists
Ustad Kamal Sabri (Sarangi), represents the seventh generation of illustrious Sarangi exponents belonging to the 400 year old Sainia gharana of Moradabad. Ustad KamalSabri, son of Sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab has been reinventing the art of Sarangi playing for many years while maintaining the rich legacy of hisgharana which is the leading gharana in the art of Sarangi playing
Kamal’s father has been responsible for popularizing Sarangi on a global scale and Kamal has redefined it for the masses and has demonstrated profound versatility in playing the Sarangi and has introduced innovations like adding a cello string to Sarangi
Ustad Kamal Sabri has composed music for several Hollywood and Bollywood films, and delivered powerful background scores for documentary films, theatre and dance performances. He is also an accomplished vocalist
After the golden age of Sarangi till the mid 20th century, there was a vacuum in good Sarangi-playing. Kamal has put new vigour in this art and has inspired a new generations of Sarangi players with his distinct style, mentorship and dedication. He once again established Sarangi as a solo instrument whileforging new partnerships with both Indian and foreign musicians.
Pt. Anand Thakore (Vocal), Born in Mumbai in 1971, Poet and Hindustani classical vocalist Anand Thakore spent a part of his childhood in Britain and has lived in India since then. Waking in December (2001), Mughal Sequence (2012) and Elephant Bathing (2012) are his three collections of verse. His poems, as well as his critical essays on poetry and music have appeared in leading national and international journals and anthologies.  He is the founder of Harbour Line, a Mumbai-based publishing collective, and of Kshitij,  a group devoted to the creation of interactive performance spaces for musicians. Thakore describes his work as poet and musician, as having arisen ‘from a fortuitous confluence of cultural histories’. He gives concerts regularly at ‘mehfil-s’ and music festivals in various parts of the country and lives in Mumbai, where he teaches Hindustani music in the guru-shishya tradition
His musical training began in early childhood under the guidance of Ustad Aslam Khan and of his father Sandip Thakore, a sitar-enthusiast and a disciple of Ustad Mohammed Khan ‘Beenkaar’. Anand Thakore trained for many years with Pandit Satyasheel Desphande, foremost disciple of Pandit Kumar gandharva; and with Pandit Baban Haldankar of the Agra Gharana. During his years as a student of Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande, he played an active role in musicological research and documentation projects at the Samvaad Foundation run by his guru in Mumbai. A composer of music with lyrics in Hindi, he has a number of Khayal compositions to his credit and composes under the pseudonym Sabadpiya. Guldasta-e-Khayal, his latest Hindustani Classical CD appeared in 2011; Sabadpiya Ki Khoj, a pamphlet of khayal lyrics composed by him, in 2009.
Pt. Shubhenra Rao (Sitar), is an internationally acclaimed performer, composer, cultural entrepreneur and music educator. His relentless service in promoting Indian music has made him a highly respected figure in the field of music and education across the world. A protégé of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar, Shubhendra Rao has established himself “not only as a master of his instrument but also as a thinking musician, constantly endeavouring to carry his instrument beyond conventional boundaries” and “a musical bridge to many cultures” Critics and connoisseurs hail him as a worthy successor to his Guru’s tradition
A child prodigy who started playing sitar at the age of 3, he grew up in a musical family. His mother Nagarathna is a Saraswati Veena player. His father, N.R.Rama Rao, a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar himself, was his first teacher. Shubhendra had his first lesson from the Bharat Ratna Ravi Shankar at the age of 8. At the age of 18, he moved to Delhi, living with and learning from his Guru in the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara. As a budding artist, he was the recipient of Youth State scholarship for music, Karnataka in 1975 and National scholarship for music from Ministry of culture in 1977. An A- Grade artist of All India Radio for over 25yrs, Shubhendra Rao is a regular performer on Radio and National Television. 
As a composer Shubhendra Rao distinguishes himself to push to boundaries of classical music and creating music for artists across cultures. He has composed for and worked with Dutch Cellist, Saskia Rao-de Haas, American Jazz Guitarist Freddie Bryant, Iranian musicians, Japanese legendary singer Ryoko Moriyama, Chinese Pipa maestro Gao Hong, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Chinese National Orchestra amongst others
He is also an accomplished composer. His ‘When Gods Meet’ was commissioned by Padma Vibhushan Dr Sonal Mansingh for her dance production. The New York Times described his composition, ‘Yathra’ as ‘movingly meditative’. His composition ‘Ekta’ to honour German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to India in 2015 was described as ‘exemplifying the very best in the musical traditions of the East & West’.
