Event Description:
Tabla Wizard Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society and Hindustan Zinc Limited as a CSR initiative are organizing the 20th edition of the concert series Smritiyaan #UdaipurChapter – Live from the stage on their official social media accounts. The annual concert series will present a unique confluence of Carnatic and Hindustani Music.

Pandit Chatur Lal was the first internationally acclaimed Indian Percussionist who popularised the Tabla among the western audiences. He was one of the doyens to promote and give a grand acceptance of Indian classical music to the West in mid-50’s giving concerts of Indian Classical music. In these precedent times, we have come a long way bringing not only Indian music but also global music on the same platform. His granddaughter Ms Shruti ChaturLal Sharma who has also curated & conceptualized Smritiyaan and is the Artistic Director at Pandit Chaturlal Festival, shared, "This year on the Tabla wizard’s 95th birth anniversary, Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society also announces Pandit Chatur Lal Yuva Puruskar especially for the young maestros who are graciously carrying the responsibility of promoting Indian culture through their artistry."

As a CSR initiative of Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society and Vedanta Hindustan Zinc Limited, the team organized Pratibha’ – Online talent hunt of Indian classical folk music & dance where the winner was selected by eminent jury Bhajan Samraat Padmashri Anup Jalota, Padmashri Kathak Guru Shovana Narayan, Tabla Maestro Pandit Charanjit Lal and Indian flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar. As a winning prize, the 15-year-old winner Kaustubh Manipushp Kunj from Ajmer will be performing as a starting act during the Smritiyaan #UdaipurChapter.  He will also be conferred with the Pandit Chatur Lal Yuva Puruskar. Later, music maestros like Dr Mysore Manjunath, Pt. Gaurav Mazumdar, Vidwan B. C. Manjunath and Pranshu Chatur Lal will be gracing the occasion with their divine confluence.

The evening will witness some amazing moments dipped in a soulful musical Jugalbani. Dr Mysore Manjunath who will be a part of this unique Jugalbandi is one of the Top-Ranking Violinists in India today. He stormed into the music realm at a very young age and swept all the music lovers & critics with his mellifluous music and astounding mastery of the violin.  The legendary Sitar doyen Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar admired his music and called him the 'Prince of Mysore' during the live concert of Mysore Brothers in Sandiego in 2012. The Grammy-nominated musician, Pt. Gaurav Mazumdar is one of the artists to light the concert series with his mastery. Gaurav Mazumdar hails from Mazumdar family of Allahabad (Prayagraj). His early music career began with vocal music followed by the violin, later the legendary maestro, Pt. Ravi Shankar discovered his talent and inspired him to pursue Sitar. Since then, there is no looking back, Gaurav composed quite a few pieces of music and he has several albums featuring his classical, collaborative, and compositional works.

Vidwan B. C. Manjunath is another great artist joining in this confluence of Carnatic & Hindustani music. Being an amazingly talented artist, he is one among few Carnatic musicians who can read, transcribe, and play from western notation. He has also been bestowed with the title of Asthana Vidwan in 2012 and has been facilitated by many awards. Manjunath has performed in some prestigious venues like Theatre de la Ville – Paris, Queen Elizabeth Hall-London, Sydney Opera House-Sydney to name a few. This breath-taking line-up of artists will become more exciting with Pranshu Chatur Lal. The grandson of legendary Tabla Wizard Late Pandit Chatur Lal and son of Pandit Charanjit Lal, Pranshu is famously known as ‘PRINCE OF TABLA’.  With an aim and passion to promote the Indian and global music, Pranshu Chatur Lal has been performing at various international levels sharing a stage with the many music legends. With his love for percussions and mastery over Tabla, he has also crafted his art with proficiency in Western drums and Turkis drums ‘Darbuka’ and ‘Cajon’.

Sitar maestro Pt. Gaurav Mazumdar and Violin genius Dr Mysore Manjunath shared the excitement of working with Pandit Chatur Lal Festival team and said, “We are touched by the dedication by Chatur Lal family and it is our honour to be a part of this show.”
Talking about the Jugalbandis, Mridangam genius Vidwan B. C. Manjunath, and young Tabla maestro Pranshu Chatur Lal said, “Jugalbandis are an enriching experience where each artist of different music genre contributes towards the beauty of amalgamation.”
