About Monoswezi
Monoswezi is a collective of musicians originally from Mozambique, Norway, Sweden and Zimbabwe-based in Norway. With a common passion for traditional African music in general and music from Zimbabwe and Mozambique in particular, Monoswezi seeks a musical expression, where respect for tradition is combined with different references and experiences from jazz and modern Western music.
In addition to traditional music, Monoswezi performs music composed by the band members, with a strong improvisational approach.
Monoswezi has, in recent years, been touring, Scandinavia, UK, Germany, Southern Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong and China, playing at London Jazz Festival, radio concert in BBC, Jazzahead Bremen, Penang International Jazz Festival, Oslo World Music Festival amongst others.
In May 2015 we released the album "Monoswezi Yanga" on the acclaimed English riverboat label/world music network (www.worldmusic.net/monoswezi), our second on this label, one of the great record companies in world music.
"Monoswezi Yanga” was an album of the month in BBC World on 3, which led us to the BBC's stage at Latitude festival in England this summer, one of England's biggest festivals with over 40,000 visitors, the concert was recorded and broadcast on BBC Late Junction.
The album has remained in the top 20 on the World Music Charts Europe for 6 months.
