Giants of Jazz is the flagship festival of The Piano Man. Entering its fifth edition this year, Giants of Jazz 2019, brings to you a global roster of artists across 12 days of continuous programming. This November 26-December 8, you are invited to be a part of this living, breathing venture where fans of all types rub shoulders with connoisseurs of jazz in a form that is unadulterated and one of its kind.

About Macha Gharibian :

Singer, pianist, songwriter and composer, raised on the road with her musician father, her music is an elegant blend of jazz folk-pop mysteriously born between Paris, Erevan & New York cities.

Macha Gharibian began to play the piano at a very early age. After a strong sound training in classical piano in Paris, having graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musique, she set off in 2005 to New York, where she discovered jazz and improvisational music under the guidance of Ralph Alessi, Jason Moran, Ravi Coltrane, Uri Caine. It was in New York that she discovered a talent for improvisation, crossed the bridge between classical music and jazz and began to compose and create her own personal style.

Back to France, Macha started to write for little and big musical training, and for film and theatre as a composer and pianist. Since then, Macha gets on tour with several French Artists of the Jazz and world music scene, Lena Chamamyan, Cherif Soumano, Papiers d’Armenies,  Bratsch...

She soon started to explore new territory to forge a profoundly personal musical and vocal style, at a crossroads between contemporary jazz, Armenian music and modern folk. With her debut album Mars, released in 2013, she has now created a realm of her own, bringing together voice and piano on stage and mixing her multiple influences, from jazz to world and folk music.

For the French News Liberation, “Mars” was considered as one of the best surprises of 2013.  Her new album Trans Extended, recorded at the Studios La Buissonne in January 2016, will be released on October the 14th 2016 on the Jazz Village Label (Harmonia Mundi/PIAS).

About Trans Extended:

Following on from her first record Mars (2013), which grabbed the attention of both music lovers and critics, Macha Gharibian's album Trans Extended places her music in the unclassifiable category, given her very personal style combining elements of oriental jazz with neo-classical and adventurous pop music. A bold composer, she carves out heavenly melodies. An ethereal pianist and vigorous singer, she turns them into intense, spell-binding pieces.
