About the Show:

The quartet is led by one of the top jazz singers in India, Elena Friedrich, who is a powerful and soulful jazz musician. She is versatile with every form of jazz from its inception to its modernity. The band brings to the listener an evening of swing jazz, bebop jazz, post bop jazz, ballads, Latin jazz and modern jazz. Featuring Pradyumna Singh Manot (Paddy) on piano, Bihu Mukherjee on drums and Aditya Servaia on bass this will be an intense performance. 

About Elena Friedrich:

Elena Friedrich Sciubba was born in Rome, Italy. Since her mother is German and her father Italian, she was raised bilingual which immediately determined her passion and natural inclination for language, sounds and multicultural environments. Her musical studies began at an early age learning to play the piano with her grandmother. She started studying western classical music from the age of 7 until the age of 16, completing theory and solfège exams at Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. At the age of 18, she started performing pop and jazz music as a vocalist, studying classical technique and attending various workshops (Tuscia in Jazz, The Barry Harris Workshop, Estill Voicecraft workshop etc).

Later she enrolled in Jazz studies at the conservatory of Rome, studying music under the guidance of internationally acclaimed Italian jazz performers as Maria Pia de Vito, Danilo Rea, Paolo Damiani, Stefano di Battista to name a few. At the side she continued performing as a soloist and backing vocalist in Italy, singing Jazz, pop, soul, rock and gospel. After being admitted to the prestigious Conservatory of Amsterdam she completed her masters in Jazz Vocals in the Netherlands, studying music with Lydia van Dam, Sanna van Vliet, Bart Fermie and Harmen Fraanje whose names are very well known in the Dutch and international jazz scene. She performed in various bands, took part in competitions in north Italy (winning 2nd prize in the vocal category) and in South Africa, performing in Amsterdam, London, Piacenza, Rome and many more.

She moved back to her home country Italy in 2017, collaborating with many musicians, recording vocals and teaching voice, piano and choir in various schools and privately. Her unique timbre, warm tone and vocal clarity capture listeners at first sight. She explores a modern way of being a bandleader through her fresh and natural charisma. These aspects are particularly appreciated by the public and fellow musicians, making it possible to collaborate on various projects, stretching her abilities through the various soundscapes of modern music.

Entering its fifth edition this year, Giants of Jazz 2019, brings to you a global roster of artists across 12 days of continuous programming. This November 26-December 8, you are invited to be a part of this living, breathing venture where fans of all types rub shoulders with connoisseurs of jazz in a form that is unadulterated and one of its kind.
