About the Album: 

Aranyer Din Ratri (Disco Puppet’s third full length) gets its name from a 1970 Satyajit Ray film. Shoumik Biswas first saw the film in 2016, after which he began to take an active interest in Ray’s works. These movies became a window into understanding his own personal history and art. He began to understand his attraction to seemingly insignificant details of daily life, the way people interact and the longing for human contact. Although his work always explored these themes, this was the first time he became aware of it. 

Follow up to the acclaimed Princess This, Aranyer Din Ratri runs 40 minutes and is presented in a stream of consciousness format - where tracks flow into one other building a linear narrative - one of search and self-discovery.

About the Performance: 

Aranyer Din Ratri is a theatrical performance with sets, visuals, light design and movement. 

For this show, Shoumik Biswas wants to push himself into a more performance like space. Making use of Light design and visuals to further the narrative of the show. 

He will be doing ‘scenes’ with Aditya Bharadwaj (a friend, artist and often handy cam operator at Consolidate shows) on stage.  Through the show Shoumik will alternate between playing the music and interacting with Adi and the sets. He is particularly excited to be playing a bit of drums for the first time in a while.  


Shoumik has never done anything of the sort before. He is both nervous and excited to bring this production to life.
