Event Description : Trishna Singh has created a remarkable menagerie of fantastic beasts and the machine world that surrounds and sometimes crushes them, for her show of new work at the Academy of Fine Arts in Siri Fort. In her sensitive and powerful renderings, you see both the peril and startling beauty of the world around us. 

From a massive and heartwrenching work inspired by the cruel death of Avni the tigress to smaller meditations on the intersection and opposition between the natural order and the encroaching manmade world of machines, Trishna embeds seahorses, peacocks, cat skulls among the forms of motorcycles, spaceships, watch parts in a manner that questions the mechanical world created by humans.

Born in New Delhi, Trishna’s work has evolved over her years of solo and group shows. She draws freely from European masters of oil painting and from contemporary Indian tradition, and is powerfully in tune with an elemental, wild and increasingly threatened natural world. Her return to a monochrome palette, often painted over her older, colourful canvases, makes this an especially striking and unusual show by one of Delhi’s most individual emerging artists.
