Event Description : Sentirenla Lucia is a vocalist from Nagaland, India who has found her forte in R&B, Neo-soul and Jazz-Fusion music. After receiving a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music, Lucia relocated to Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance.
Lucia’s performance experience has ranged from recording jingles for radio and television for national spots in India, to singing with artists such as Tata Vega, Joey Blake, Rhiannon and Larry Watson. Lucia has also recorded with John Blackwell while she was with the Prince Ensemble.
Lucia was a founding member of Artistes Unlimited, a 60-member choir and charitable trust that promotes the performing arts in New Delhi, India. In 2009 she was part of Bill Banfield’s Jazz, R&B band ‘Jazz Urbane’ and performed with them at Sculler’s and the BeanTown Jazz Festival.
In 2012 she founded Phoenix Anthology with the purpose of bringing diversity in music and to give musicians in Nagaland the opportunity to experiment with different genres of music. Lucia has performed with Semper Soul as their lead vocalist and also the lead vocalist for the Boston based GB band 51-Soul. She also appears with a’capella groups Sung Deep and The Singing Tribe.
In addition to being an active performer, she has also worked with Zumix, a Boston non-profit organization that was honored by the White House as a 2011 recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, as a teaching artist.
She also worked and taught the Prep Academy students of City Music (Berklee College of Music). Lucia enjoys working with students to develop their vocal and performance techniques individually, teaching students how to sing background vocals, and instructing student a’capella groups.
