Event Description : MUSIC 'Spheres of Influence' band
Spheres of Influence is an ongoing project based in Boston that attempts to reconcile musical elements from different cultural traditions across world regions. At the center of the group are drummer Bob Jordon and saxophonist Derek Beckvold, who have decades of experience teaching, performing, and using music as a vehicle for social change. The group also features a rotating line-up that showcases local musicians who share their passion for combining musical traditions. This 2019 Tour of India includes Delhi based bassist Jayant Manchanda and pianist Utsav Lal.

About the Musicians:
Derek Beckvold is a multi-instrumentalist performer, composer, conductor and educator based in Boston. He has performed in a range of musical contexts across North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. As a saxophonist, he has contributed to a wide variety of projects that span from solo to orchestral performances.
Utsav Lal is a studied classical and jazz pianist who draws inspiration from Indian Music and blends his diverse musical influences to perform ragas on the piano. Over the course of an impressive fifteen-year music career, he has successfully taken the pure sounds of Indian ragas to global venues including Carnegie Hall-New York, The Kennedy Center, and Southbank Centre-London.
Jayant Manchanda is a Bass Player and Sound designer from New Delhi, India. He is a regular in the music sessions around Delhi, and has performed with well-known bands link Kitchensink, Smooth Relax, Kit Kat club trio. He also works as a Sound Designer for film, television and video-games and is part of "Stilte Collective" based out of Amsterdam Netherlands.
Bob Jordon is a collaborative musician and composer rooted in the jazz tradition. He has performed in well-known venues throughout North America, Europe, and South Asia. He is a student of drumming legend Rakalam Bob Moses, and is a self-taught pianist. He holds degrees in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory and McGill University.
