The world has come a long way from the days when musicians were thrown out of banquets and tied to trees. In 2018 A.D. music is entirely taken over by EDM. Wait, not entirely... one small band still holds out against this artificial menace. Inspired by the beloved characters created by Goscinny and Uderzo, they call themselves Funkatrix. Just like the small band of indomitable Gauls, they get their fortitude to resist the usual clamor from their top secret weapon -- Groove! (All songs are approved by their mascot Catatonix)
Funkatrix was born in 2018, when two musical (genius) companions who knew each other over a decade and shared some powerful musical chemistry came together to write music that was absolutely true to them. Guitarist Vinay Kaushal and Drummer Shreyas Iyengar shared a dream of writing intense, daring, foot tapping music that came naturally to them, rather than worrying about what ‘sells’. The outcome is a Funk Trio that tends to seriously astonish every audience, elevate their adrenaline levels and leave them screaming for more! What they have found is the secret formula for music that sells but is still uniquely their own. Presenting, FUNKATRIX.
Vinay Kaushal
The principal songwriter of the band.
He is an alumnus of the Musician's Institute, Hollywood (GIT), Vinay's playing boasts of a unique stylistic versatility with a repertoire that includes genres like the blues, funk, jazz, rock and fusion. Vinay writes music with intricacies that are rarely stumbled upon.
Vinay officially endorses Fender Musical Instruments and Ernie Ball Strings. His debut album “Naked on a Train” in January 2018 and has received accolades from some of the top names in the music industry.
He has performed at various venues in Los Angeles including the prestigious Wiltern Theater. Blue Frogs, Shisha Jazz Cafe and the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai along with festivals like NH7 Weekender and Sula Fest have been some of his favourite performances in India.
Shreyas Iyengar
The Groove Machine of the band.
Having been a student of the drums for over a decade and music as a whole for the same period, Shreyas not only brings his unique influences as a drummer to the project, but also doubles with production / live sampling duties as well.
Shreyas' playing and production is an amalgamation of his years spent performing varied genres across stages in and outside India, as well as learnings from his experiences as a composer of film music, background scores and other visual media.
