A vocalist, a songwriter and performer whose stage is her home. Anisha Lakshmanan balances her work pride in her cultural heritage and broad musical curiosity.
Dressed in traditional attire - the saree and bindi and armed with her distinctive versatile voice, Anisha explores a repertoire that includes jazz, pop, rock, flamenco, Indian classical and Sufi music. In a world that is constantly evolving, she believes in being grounded to her roots while simultaneously branching out into the many genres that the world has to offer.
Starting at the age of 5, Anisha has been trained in the classical forms of Indian music for over 19 years. Carnatic music for 13 and Hindustani music for 6 years by various gurus in Delhi, Chennai and Pune. She has completed a bachelors in performing arts (voice) from Savitri Phule Pune University and her masters from Berklee College of Music at Valencia Spain.
She released her 5 track EP - ‘Of many’ in January 2019, and is producing a live electronic solo act. The EP is a collection of songs derived from Hindustani classical, Carnatic, jazz, flamenco, pop and soul. It is named so because the album speaks ‘Of many’ kinds of languages, ‘of many’ emotions, ‘of many’ phases of her life and follows a narrative very close to that of her life. No two songs are alike, yet have the commonality of emotion and space of creation. It is trilingual EP consisting of songs in 3 languages, English, Hindi and Tamil. Her dream is to curate folk music by documenting her travels on her motorcycle to the regions of dying folk traditions and performing with these folk artists across the globe.
Anisha debuted as a playback singer in the Tamil movie, ‘Burma’ and has been a part of TV shows like ‘Wrangler’,’ MTV Urban wanderers’, a show about motorbiking and discovering places around your city and was featured on the show, ‘Ranveer’s cafe’, a music and food TV program. She has modelled for brands like Dove and Paris beauty and most recently acted as the female lead in the feature film ‘Panchi’.
