Discussions on Amateur Theatre

The ‘amateur’ theatre has had a big role in sustaining theatre activity in urban centers. Yet, amidst the expanding budgets of big theatre productions, the difficulty of practicing socially committed independent theatre has been constantly noted by artists and activists. In such an environment, it is necessary that we initiate an engagement with our contemporary past in order to gain insight into our present situation. With this view in our mind, we are holding a series of public discussions with members of Delhi-based independent theatre groups of the 1970s and 1980s. These Discussions will be hosted by Deepanshu Mahajan. He is a research student at the University of Delhi. His M.Phil research entails studying the history of independent theatre in Delhi.
