Brazilian musician Jim Porto had his first contact with music when he was 10 years old fascinated by the nimble hands of a friend running up and down the keyboard. He began studying piano in his hometown of Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, melting together classical with Samba and Bossanova, gaining notoriety almost immediately.
By the age of 20 he was well known on the stages of his newly adopted city, the heart of Brazilian beat, Rio de Janeiro. And it was from Rio that his touring career began both in Brazil and throughout Latin America.
When he arrived in Italy at the end of the 70s, he adopted Rome, and the Eternal City welcomed him as enthusiastically as Rio. Spotted by Sandro Melaranci, manlord and artistic director "il Manuia" the most important Brazilian Music venue of the time he began combining his rhythmic piano technique with his soulful voice, driving forward his already established success.
Jim has combined his talents with big name artists such as jazz musician Chet Baker, who performed in Jim's first album, Brazilian music exponents like for example Djavan (who performed with Jim some brilliant jam session). In 1983 he recorded his first LP and two years later found himself performing on Italian national television next to Gilberto Gil.
