Event Description : THEATRE : Shakerpeare's "Merchant of Venice" Hindi Play
Synopsis: Merchant of Venice is considered as one of the most famous work of the greatest playwright on earth – William Shakespeare. This is the romantic story of a young man, Bassanio, who has squandered his fortune and borrow money to woo the wealthy lady he loves –Portia. He borrows money from Antonio who in turn obtains a loan from the Jewish moneylender Shylock. Shylock, who hates Antonio because of Antonio’s anti-Semitic behavior towards him, agrees to make the short-term loan, but, in a moment of dark humor, makes a condition – the loan must be repaid in three months or Shylock will exact a pound of flesh from Antonio. Antonio agrees! Here pathos and farce combine with moral complexity and romantic entanglement to display the extraordinary power and range of Shakespeare at his best.
