Event Description : MUSIC / DANCE : Sursagar Society of Delhi Gharana presents "24th Sangeet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Music Festival"
Sangeet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award 2018 to be conferred on Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt
An annual event of the capital, held in remembrance of the great maestro and ex-Doyen of Dilli Gharana - Ustad Chand Khan – the festival features a range of Hindustani classical performances, both vocal and instrumental, by maestros who deliver the art-form in its purest possible form unto the Indian audiences.
Alongside, young talents are also included in the programme, as they share the stage with maestros and convey through their music, modern musical thoughts and ideas. Furthermore, an Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award is also presented to veteran Indian classical artists. This year’s award will be presented to Padma Bhushan Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
The concept for this year’s festival is ‘Guru-Shishya Paramara’ and is dedicated to Pandit Kunwar Shyam. The venture, initiated by the Sursagar Society of Dilli Gharana, is supported primarily by the Ministry of Culture, GOI. The aim of the festival is to achieve acknowledgement and appreciation from our fellow Indians, not just the art scholars, but also the audiences, especially the youth, who have not been introduced and exposed to the world of classical music.
“Music speaks directly to the heart. This response, this echo within the heart, is proof that human hearts can transcend the barriers of time and space and nationality. The voice has the power to transform life from within, to strengthen and purify it” says Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, General Secretary of Sursagar Society of Delhi Gharana This festival will feature a range of Hindustani classical Vocal & Instrumental Maestros and present an opportunity for music lovers of the city to connect with the richly resonant art of Indian Classical music
