SYNOPSIS

●        A timeless mythological concept of the unification of male and female power, and energy generated in the Purans, and carried down to the present, continues to mystify, challenge and stir the imagination on its infinite possibilities of interpretation and representation

●        Ardhanareswara - what exactly is it in the modern day scenario?

-          a conflict of irreconcilable opposites? Or a submission to the patriarchal prototype? Or a confluence of individual identities? Or a symbiotic energy of our spirit with that of the cosmic energy?

●        What does it mean to be a complete man merged with a complete woman, thereby two identities becoming one? What about the energies that exist within all of us but fail to breathe due to the constant stereotyping of how a man or a woman should be? Is it the pursuit of love? Or is it feeling man or woman enough? Is it being a better looking man in the eyes of the world or a more sensual woman?

●        "That's not how a decent woman should behave". "Be the Goddess but don't have a voice". "Look beautiful but don't act smart." "Stop acting like a girl". "Men don't cry". "Why are you dressed like a woman". "Behave like a man".

●        Is a woman not complete if she has the energy of Purusha within her? Is a man incomplete if he has Prakriti as his dominant energy? Exploring these facets of what men and women struggle to find, this dance production is a journey of different situations and emotions that men and women go through in order to come to the one final conclusion - imbalance and chaos outside can only be restored with the seeking of balance within.

●        With the acknowledgement and the awareness that in every given moment of time I could either be Prakriti or Purusha or both without being lesser or more. Without living up to what others expect of me. Without constantly proving, rather embracing the RIGHT AND THE LEFT, THE SHIVA AND THE SHAKTI, THE PURUSHA AND THE PRAKRITI as equally strong parts of me whether I am a MAN OR A WOMAN.

●        PRESENTING BEFORE YOU A CONTEMPORARY DANCE JOURNEY AND SYMBIOSIS OF ENERGIES, EXPLORATION and EVOLUTION through an intensive pursuit of movement and a journey that the dancers have lived for this production choreographed & designed by Bhavini Misra
